Spring 2012 English 160 UIC students (whose videos can be found under February 2012 tabs) were asked to create visual essays on Chicago. They were asked to consider the following themes and to pick one: Immigration, Art, Education, Social Class and Violence. The goal was to create a visual argument on Chicago and one of these themes. "The City of Haven: Evanston" by Juvaria Shamsuddin
This is a short clip about the lost and hidden found in Evanston. The lost is the "Old Ridge" which was used by the indians and travelers. The Hidden are these beautiful religious scriptures, such as the Quran, that are held in the Northwestern University Liibrary.

Maine East High School looks like a typical school in Park Ridge, but inside Maine East one can find a hidden mosiacs in the old poor and lost classroom floors in the Maine East Tower.
"West Loop in Chicago" by Louis Rivera
This is a visual essay about the West Loop and the changes that it's gone through. The buildings in the West Loop reflect how the culture of the neighborhood has grown and developed and these changes are also reflected in the culture of Chicago.

A brief over view of Navy Pier Past and Present and the way it shapes the views on Chicago.
