Spring 2012 English 160 UIC students (whose videos can be found under February 2012 tabs) were asked to create visual essays on Chicago. They were asked to consider the following themes and to pick one: Immigration, Art, Education, Social Class and Violence. The goal was to create a visual argument on Chicago and one of these themes. Enjoy!
First to start off with I liked the way he edit his video by putting it up on YouTube and how some part of the image where going hand to hand with the voice. For instance when the author talked about sport he had the image of baseball stadium up and when he talked about venues he had images of different stadiums. I also like the fact the author talked about how diversity is one of the most important factors and I liked how he emphasizes it by putting the whole diversity factor at the end. The part that I thought he needed to improve on is that some of his image does not go hand in hand with the visual. For instance when the author talks about Greek town there aren’t any images of that town and when the author has the image of hot dog he doesn’t talk about food at all. The music was a great addition but needed to improve on the ending when the speaker was speaking and the music just started while he was speaking. Other than that I thought the video was real great and I like some parts especially such as the whole train part because transportation is a key part of having an Olympic anywhere. All the images where unique and creative with such aspect that makes people outside of Chicago want to visit Chicago. Great Job. Too bad Chicago didn’t win the Olympic bid, If they had this video maybe they would’ve had a better chance winning.
