"History of Sports in Chicago" by Nicholas Parker (theme: Chicago and Sports).
My project is a reflection of Chicago sports history.
Spring 2012 English 160 UIC students (whose videos can be found under February 2012 tabs) were asked to create visual essays on Chicago. They were asked to consider the following themes and to pick one: Immigration, Art, Education, Social Class and Violence. The goal was to create a visual argument on Chicago and one of these themes. Enjoy!
First off I would like to say that all the images that were used in this video where excellent, told me a lot about Chicago sport just by looking at the image itself. I liked the way the author used big text before he entered into the section of sport he was going to talk about. For instance if he was going to talk about Cubs he would label the “CHICAGO CUBS” text as bigger than other so it stands out. The fact that the author broke it down into section and categorizing it by teams I thought was very creative. I also liked how the music he used went with the image for instance when the cubs section came up the usual 7th inning stretch song for cub’s home game came on. The problem with the video was that the text where moving slightly fast so I wasn’t able to read it all. Or it could be that the text was in bright colors and the image made it harder to read. I also thought that some of the image was just in their for no reason because after the text there were image that had no text which made it seem like it was out of place. Other than that I thought the video was great it gave me a lot of information on Sports in Chicago that I didn’t know. Nice work.
